Happy new year !

Gledilegt nytt ár !

As you might have heard, it was new year’s eve here as well. And as everywhere, people partied, wished each other a happy new year, took new resolutions. Speaking of which, here is two of mine, Having this blog up and running and writing a lot and getting back to sport.  I just hope you have in yours coming to Iceland.

Something that not lots of people know about new year’s eve in reykjavik, there is no official fireworks, therefore everything is privately made. But it doesn’t mean it’s smaller…on the contrary. The days before the 31st, you sometimes hear around the city bangs and other flashes. And the more you get closer to the 31st…the more you hear explosions.

And on the 31st, it start cracking in the after noon until  the evening. It’s a constantly noisy but nothing really starts before 23h. I have been out at 23h30 and here is some videos of what you can see in reykjavik.

As you can see, even without official display, there is way more fireworks than in any other places i’ve been. As a indication of the intensity, in my native Switzerland, the official display is just a tenth of what you’ve just seen.
